These 5 Celebrities Are Normalising Repeating Outfits & We’re Here for It

Celebrities are the original influencers. We are constantly aspiring to look like them by copying their style or attempting to pull-off their latest hairstyles. So, when some of our favourite celebs champion sustainability by repeating outfits, we are bound to be positively inspired.

Especially, in a time, where the sustainability movement is trying to combat the ‘wear once and throw it away’ mentality that is still at large. A study conducted by Hubbub confirmed this notion when it revealed that 1 in 6 young people wouldn't wear the same outfit once it's been seen on social media.

Celebrities, just like us, probably repeat their casual clothes from time to time — but when they dare to get photographed in the same outfit twice (or even thrice!), they are setting the stage for something a lot more sustainable

Ahead, we list 5 trendsetters who are breaking the norms by recycling their looks in effortless style:

1. Kate Middleton

One would assume a Royal Duchess to have a rotating wardrobe of elegant choices to avoid getting caught in the same outfit twice. But Kate Middleton, does not shy away from recycling her designer looks. She has shown up at various royal events repeating the same outfits with slightly altered styling.

2. Meghan Markle

Before stepping back from her royal duties, Meghan Markle was no stranger to repeating outfits herself. In an age where fashion is becoming increasingly disposable, Meghan’s choice to recycle her looks during public appearances is incredibly significant.

3. Cate Blanchett

Proving that even Hollywood’s finest can repeat their red carpet outfits and make it work, Cate Blanchett prefers cherishing her designer creations. In a 2018 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she claimed that, “Particularly in today’s climate, it seems wilful and ridiculous that such beautiful garments are not cherished and reworn for a lifetime”.

4. Joaquin Phoenix

While men are known to be a lot more practical than women when it comes to shamelessly repeating their clothes, The Joker star took it a step further last year by vowing to wear the same Stella McCartney tuxedo for the entire award season in an attempt to reduce waste and promote sustainability. And he sure kept his word!

5. Tiffany Haddish

In 2018, comedian and actress, Tiffany Haddish made headlines for repeating a halter-neck Alexander McQueen dress four times. When asked about recycling the look, Haddish told W magazine that her $4,122 dress was the equivalent of a down payment on a car or medical bill: “So, even though everyone says I shouldn’t wear the dress in public again, I’m wearing it.”
