4 Fashion Trends for Fall 2021 to Start Wearing Now

The chill has finally set in, making now the perfect time to sort your wardrobe for the season ahead. And what better a way to spot the latest trends for fall than turning to one of our time-honoured methods of seeking inspiration straight from the source — fashion weeks. Ahead, we picked the definitive high points that lit up the runways to bring you four of the best fall 2021 fashion trends and how you can wear them.

1. Kitted out in knits

Head-to-toe knitwear has made a serious comeback and they’re nothing like the boring knits you’d usually come across. From ribbed sets to luxe crop tops, body-con cardigans to snugly slit dresses, the latest silhouettes strike a stylish note on an otherwise dull piece of winter wear. Take a page out of the runway handbook and add some leather boots or a belt into the mix to create some textural balance.

2. Modern minimalism

The verdict is in, embracing minimal style is the way to go this fall. One of the predominant themes of this aesthetic requires choosing a mix of sophisticated materials, such as wool and knits. Furthermore, this restrained trend relies heavily on the use of classic neutrals — black, white or nude — worn in either a pair or as an entire look. If the runway looks have been any indication, the minimal trend requires unfussy, menswear-inspired silhouettes, as they aptly lend to the strict and timeless feeling. While these themes might seem lacklustre to some, we find the very idea of this simplicity compelling and surprisingly sexy in its calm confidence.

3. Elevated leisure

Cozy pieces go beyond just sweats, the latest in loungewear is all about luxe pieces that can just as easily be styled outside your bedroom. The fall runways have clearly demonstrated that the desire to dress comfortably isn’t going away anytime soon. Our hack for making loungewear look luxe? Opt for comfortable pieces that can double up as casual staples — cinch a leather belt at the waist or simply pair it with matching bottoms to give it that streetwear edge.

4. Prep school style

You know preppy style when you see it: plaid pieces, cardigans, button-downs and crew neck sweaters. However, the new playbook on preppy is anything but dated — it’s playful, experimental and strikes the right balance between comfort and style. Think plaid coats in place of plaid skirts, snug fit knits instead of sweaters and slitted skirts as opposed to pleated ones. The new prep aesthetic is all about a mix of comfortable and cool pieces for a fresh collegiate-meets-cozy look this fall.
